Juneteenth 2024

Now that Juneteenth is a Federal Holiday it has become a month long observance of what the history of Freedom Day means to Black Americans, to all of us and the work that’s still needed to achieve full equality for all Americans.

Here’s some of the highlights of my work to represent and serve Forest Park this month so far:

I represented the Forest Park Public Library, Village of Forest Park in presenting an original artwork to the Village of Westchester, the Village of Broadview the Village of Maywood and the Village of Bellwood to observe Juneteenth and the shared commitment our villages have to achieving equality and service to the Proviso community. These artworks will be displayed publicly connecting our communities.

I represented our village at the Maywood Juneteenth Festival, and volunteered at Speaker Welch’s Juneteenth Celebration, as well as our own Forest Park Family Pool party.

The most memorable part of Juneteenth for me was participating in the traveling museum and engaging with volunteer docents about the history of Juneteenth. I always learn something new and I hope you will take the opportunity to learn more about this important holiday and share it with someone you know.
