Brighten the holiday of a veteran! Join Commissioner Michelle Melin-Rogovin for two special Operation Rising Spirits card-making events. All supplies will be provided for both gatherings.
Thursday, December 4 at 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Jimmy’s Place (7411 W Madison St.) for a community card-writing night with Commissioner Michelle Melin-Rogovin and the Historical Society of Forest Park. This free, family-friendly event also includes pizza and soft drinks. The Historical Society will share stories of Forest Park veterans and their service.
Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 1:00 PM–2:30 PM at the Forest Park Public Library, come together with your neighbors to write cards for veterans in Illinois veterans’ homes and spread holiday cheer as a community.
Operation Rising Spirits, organized through the Department of Veterans Affairs, brings communities together to share messages of gratitude and cheer with veterans living in long-term care facilities. Last year, Forest Park wrote more than half of all the holiday cards collected statewide—and we hope to keep that tradition going strong

The Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements
The Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements is responsible for road & alley construction, street cleaning, snow removal, sewers, fresh water utilities, garbage, and yard waste.
A 30-year resident of Forest Park, Michelle has professional experience in nonprofit management, strategic planning, finance, new business development, fundraising, and grant writing. These are unique skills that the village council needs.
Michelle is a small business owner in Forest Park, where she operates Cardinal Advancement Services, a fundraising consulting business, to assist nonprofits with their fundraising operations. Before this, she worked with her husband’s small business in Forest Park, the Rogovin Collection, as an accounting manager.
